A lot of bottle Leading furniture manufacturer Emeco has teamed up with Coca-Cola to create a version of its famous Navy chair made from recycled plastic bottles. Around 111 bottles are used to make the chair, which also contains glass fibre for strength. Coca-Cola estimates that the chairs, which will go on sale this month, will repurpose more than three million PET plastic bottles.



Wedding bubble Every girl dreams of a white wedding, but not many dream of walking down the aisle in a dress made from bubblewrap. But primary school teacher Rachel Robinson took the unusual step after wearing the dress in a school fashion show. Pupils and their parents were involved in creating the gown, which was made from 13ft of bubblewrap sewn on to a fabric base. The stress-busting dress even gave the bride a way to calm her nerves – by popping the bubbles.
 
Honorary mention
David Tyson last month retired from an extraordinary career in plastics, latterly as chief executive of the Packaging and Films Association (PAFA). To honour his 43 years in flexibles, Tyson was given honorary life membership to the PAFA – a rare accolade. He responded in style. On receiving the award, Tyson joked about his advancing years, adding: My mother would always say I wasn’t born in 1945 – I was extruded. Lovely.
