Denmaur expands warehousing after successful year
By Matt Whipp Monday, 14 November 2011
Denmaur Papers has announced plans to expand its warehousing into larger facilities after a successful year.
The facility is centred at the Interlink Trading Estate in Leicester, although the business also has offices in Manchester, Leeds and St Albans with a head office in Sittingbourne, Kent.
Marketing manager Andy Bruguier said that trading so far for the year "is ahead of budget".
"We're expanding in terms of people and adding more products too. Denmaur did a lot of downsizing 24-36 months ago, and this has put us in a much better position for where the market is, whereas at the same time competitors are merging offices and going through those changes now, which gives us an advantage," he said.
He said the 73-staff £108m turnover company had experienced an increase in demand for digital products in line with a trend towards shorter run work, as well as for environmentally certified substrates.
He added that part of the company's success in a year characterised by paper manufacturers increasing prices is merchants' ability to negotiate those increases back down.
"If you index actual paper prices back to the beginning of 2003 and take out inflation, there either hasn't been an increase, or perhaps a small single digit increase over past seven or eight years.
"When manufacturers announce price increases, they tend to be negotiated back down by keen buyers on bigger deals, and once that starts to happen, those increases are negotiated away within a period of a few months."
