Domino launches new ink for thermal inkjet printing
By Melanie Defries Tuesday, 18 October 2011
Domino Printing Sciences has launched a new ethanol-based black ink aimed at coding and marking packaging within the confectionary and food markets.
The BK107 ink, which is for use with Domino's G-Series range of thermal inkjet printers, has been designed to be resistant to abrasion and deterioration after being applied to substrates such as Polyethylene, POPP, Cast PP and Polyester/PET, all of which are used extensively by confectionary and food manufacturers.
The G-Series range of printers, which includes the G100, G200 and G300, offers high-speed multi-line coding. The printers have the ability to print with solvent and water based fluids onto a variety of substrates including cartons, sachets labels and blister packs.
The new ink, which is available immediately at a list price of £242 for a box of five cartridges, has been developed by Domino’s in-house chemists and will be distributed via all Domino companies globally and to its subsidiaries and distributors.
Domino product manager Alan Mutch said: "Traditionally people use technologies other than thermal inkjet to code food and confectionary, because usually it is difficult to get the ink to adhere to the substrate and you don’t want the ink to wipe off. This is the first thermal inkjet ink to target the confectionary and food market that actually works – it adheres very well, the ink sticks and it maintains good integrity. Also, thermal inkjet technology is a lower cost proposition than other competing technologies."
