International Paper has announced its plans to cuts its energy usage by 15% and its greenhouse gas emissions by 20% by 2020.
The paper manufacturer said that the targets were part of a series of sustainability goals that it is to announce over the coming months.
It plans to achieve the reductions by improving manufacturing efficiencies, exploring new technologies and consulting with its employees to attempt to find new solutions.
Greg Gibson, vice president of the company’s corrugated packaging business and sustainability in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), said that so far the company had reduced its global energy usage by 12%.
"We feel confident we can improve on this performance while still delivering our industry leading products and customer service." He added.
In its European operations, International Paper has achieved a reduction in greenhouse emission of over 70% since 1990.
International Paper relaunched its flagship Duo Copy range in August with Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) accreditation.
